Kum & Go, L.C. (DBA Kum & Go) is a privately-held company-operated gas station/convenience store chain primarily located in the Midwestern United States. In addition to a wide selection of products, Kum & Go provides customers a proprietary mix of products under the well-known Hiland brand name as well as other proprietary product offerings. The family-owned chain began in 1959 as Hampton Oil Company, in Hampton, Iowa, and later became the Krause Gentle Corporation. In 1963, Krause Gentle introduced the company's first convenience stores, selling both fuel and merchandise items, in which they changed their gas station into a "station store." The Kum & Go name was adopted in 1975 to unify the company's array of acquired stores under a single brand. Today, the chain has grown to more than 400 convenience stores, primarily in its home state of Iowa, and employs over 5,000 people. In 2021, Kum & Go generated over $2.6B in revenue with $108M in net income. Kum & Go is currently part of Krause Group, though as of April 2023, Maverik and its parent company, FJ Management Inc, are in the process of acquiring the chain.
Krause Group is the parent company to a diverse set of businesses that include convenience retail, logistics, Italian wineries and hospitality, real estate, agriculture, and soccer clubs. The company started back in 1959, when co-founders Tony Gentle and Bill Krause started Kum & Go in Hampton, Iowa. Their family of businesses includes Krause+ (real estate operations), Kum & Go, Solar Transport (refined petroleum products transportation), Des Moines Menace Soccer, Pro Iowa (pro soccer team), Dalla Terra Ranch (organic sheep ranch), Teamwork Ranch (biodiversity ranch), Parma Calcio 1913 (Football Club), Casa di Langa (39 room luxury hotel), Vietti (winery) and Enrico Serafino (winery). The company is headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa.
